Ear Doctor Tips for Ear Care
Rockwell MD | Seattle, WA
Just like with any other part of our bodies, properly caring for ears is essential to overall health. Not taking care of any discomfort, pain, or other bothersome ear symptoms can quickly become a problem for your ear’s health. Thankfully, there are many steps you can take at home that will protect the health and safety of your ears from both the inside and the outside.
Here are a few of our top tips at Rockwell MD to keep your ears comfortable and protected all year long:
Use Ear Wax Softeners: Ear wax buildup can be a result of many different things, including allergies, improperly cleaning your ears at home with a cotton swab, earbuds, and more. To remove excess ear wax at home, it’s best to use an ear wax softener such as baby oil, mineral oil, or hydrogen peroxide. Simply place a few drops of the liquid of your choice into the ear canal, then irrigate it with warm water after 2 days.
Use Sunscreen on your Ears: Wearing sunscreen is important for protecting your skin from the sun’s harsh rays. Many people often overlook putting sunscreen on their ears, resulting in uncomfortable sunburns, irritation, and increased skin cancer risk. Consider wiping a bit of sunscreen on the outside of your ears before you leave the house each morning.
Noise Protection: Before you listen to your music on full volume, consider what it may do to your hearing. Listening to music and movies too loudly, as well as being near loud machinery, can wreak havoc on your eardrums. If the sounds around you are too loud, try to use earplugs. Instead of listening to music loudly, settle for a lower volume.
Routine Ear Checkups: No matter your age, it’s essential to get regular ear checkups to screen for any common ear problems such as infections, blockage, excess earwax, ringing in the ears, hearing loss, and more.
