Sinus Infection VS. Nasal Obstruction
Rockwell MD | Seattle, WA
Over the course of life, chances are you may succumb to either Sinus Infection and/or Nasal Obstruction. If you have them more often than not, there may be a sign of another underlying problem. Children who have them frequently require extra special care and should be treated quickly. Both sinus infections and nasal obstructions can sometimes have similar symptoms but need to be treated differently. Here is some more information about the two along with common symptoms to help you determine the correct condition so you can properly treat it or choose to seek medical attention.
Sinus Infection:
A sinus infection or sinusitis is a swelling of the tissue lining the sinuses. Sinuses are the hollow spaces between your eyes. They are located in between your bones behind your cheekbones and in your forehead. Sinuses make mucus, which trap particles and help protect against pollutants. Healthy sinuses are filled with air but when they become blocked and filled with fluid, germs are able to grow and cause an infection. Here are some symptoms of a sinus infection, if you have two or more, you may have an infection and should seek a doctor for treatment.
– Excess Sinus Infection Symptoms
– Coughing & Hoarseness
– Facial Pain & Headaches
– Ear Pressure & Fullness
– Nasal Congestion
– Cold Symptoms
Nasal Obstruction Problem:
There are a variety of reasons why you could have a nasal obstruction. Some of the reasons are caused by a deviated septum, polyps, enlarged adenoids or turbinates, tumors, and congestion. Any blockage that restricts airflow in and out of the nose (one single or both nostrils) is considered an obstruction. A persistent nasal obstruction can lead to sleep disorders. If you have a combination of these symptoms, it could be a sign of an obstruction and to seek medical treatment.

– Snoring or Sleep Apnea
